Digital x-rays offer a lower dose of radiation exposure to the patient and a more advanced digital intraoral sensor. The sensor takes the place of the large film that often scratched the inside gums, making the new technology more comfortable for the patient. It also allows for instant images with high resolution and the ability to enlarge areas of concern so the patient is able to see things that they would normally have to squint to see with the old fashioned method. Since the image comes up instantly, there is no longer a need for the patient to wait while the radiographs are developed.
